Murdock and Boyd Office
Saint John, NB

Completed 2006

The Current Murdock and Boyd Office began as a restoration project to transform a previously vacant space, with an aim to become part of the uptown fabric and to become more visible within the community. To accomplish this pairing of historic & contemporary aesthetics, this project became largely an act of careful spatial planning. Existing plaster was removed from both the ceiling and the perimeter walls exposing century old wood joists and load bearing brick structure. These surfaces were cleaned and left exposed as a construction timeline for the space. Vibrant colours, inspired by colours found on buildings around the uptown area, were brought to the interior of the space. Finally, contemporary light fixtures and mechanical infrastructure were added in such a way as to highlight, rather than compete with, the historical shell.
